What a wonderful morning I've had today. A friend of mine has a beautiful pony Mr Mu. He's only a baby really at 6 but he is gorgeous. Horses are amazing anyway but he is particularly gentle and inquisitive and very very clever.
I picked up during a reading last week that Mr Mu had hurt his legs and asked if I could give him some Reiki to help him. His Mammy very kindly agreed and so today was the day. The stables were lovely the people there were so welcoming, it was clean and open and Mr Mu was hilarious. As soon as I arrived at his door he came for a love and a nibble. He reacted really well with the energy and kept giving my cuddles and kisses throughout. He did attempt to eat my phone and nibble my coat but I didn't care. I felt privileged to be spending time with him. It was so nice just running my hands through his energy and I think he gave me as much healing as I gave him! The thing about horses is they are so very spiritual. They spend most of their time in nature and have a wonderful bond with the universal life force energy. Have you ever noticed how horses go wild before a storm even arrives, or how they back away from people who may not have the best of intentions towards them? A horses eyes will tell you so much about them and if you listen you really can hear their thoughts, just as if they were speaking to you.
Just running my hands down Mr Mu's legs I could see how happy he really was. His aura was so bright and clear, almost like his own private rainbow. Even though he had suffered with poorly legs due to being jumped on hard ground constantly (not by his Mammy I may add) he was healing well and was obviously very happy in his new surroundings. Watching him being ridden by his owner Dan I could see how that aura changed from a beautiful rainbow to a vibrant pink and red. The love flowing between horse and rider was so apparent and as they worked together it was really interesting for me to see how when one moved the other responded and vice versa. I could even see Dan's aura as she rode and although initially I was concerned she didn't have as much confidence in herself as she should have had and was under a little stress (maybe she was nervous at me watching) as she settled into the lesson her aura blended with the horse and she shone.
I was asked by one of the other girls if I would look at her horse too and I was taken to a beautiful 13 year old. As soon as I touched the horse her energy relaxed and as the Reiki flowed her eyes rolled and her head dropped into my shoulder. A true sign she was enjoying the healing. I told the girl her horse had had a trauma at around the age of 7 and that she spooked easily as a result of some ill treatment. The girl didn't know much about the horses past but knew there had indeed been some trauma and that physically the horse still had some tissue damage and she confirmed the horse did indeed spook easily.
The third horse I saw was a beautiful 11 year old girl called 'Whisper'. As soon as i saw her I knew this horse was human in many ways. She just felt (like some dogs do) that she had human properties and she was very relaxed in my company. I also picked up she had had a trauma involving a car which had made her a little nervous and that she had such a strong personality she needed discipline and stimulation as she had a tendency to be a little wild and Laura confirmed this was exactly how the horse was and she had had a recent event involving a car which had made her nervous at the time but had not harmed her in anyway. Whisper is quite a performer and her and her rider Laura have had amazing success in competitions.
Each horse (and owner) welcomed me with such trust and kindness it really touched me and as I said I think I got more healing than I gave.
Unfortunately not everyone is as nice to horses and some of them go through horrendous trauma at the hands of people. Why is it such a kind trusting animal is vulnerable to so much abuse? Why would anyone be aggressive to such an amazing animal? I suppose some people just can't stand to see another being so peaceful and free. Maybe those who abuse an animal or another person does it because they see something pure and precious that they do not feel they posses themselves. Hardly an excuse but certainly a reason! However the same could be said of anyone who is abusive in anyway to another being. Be it human or animal.
If we look at animals we could learn such a lot from them. All animals are prone to anxiety but it isn't half as common as it is in people and usually it is related to an event or trauma...often relating to people! However this can all be eased and sometimes even reversed with Reiki or other energy therapy. Animals who live outside naturally have this healing universal energy as they are so close to the elements. Tree's are particularly healing and we all know that animals will congregate underneath a tree. Of course tree's offer protection from the weather but they are also so very powerful when it comes to giving out healing and peaceful or relaxing energy.
I think so many of us choose to have animals and to spend time with them because of the therapeutic energies we get from them. Lets face it. How many of us have a 'stress head' cat? Dogs can be a little different of course but have you ever thought that it may be because dogs spend so much more time indoors and in the company of humans? All animals are very intuitive energy wise and they tune in to our energy easily so it stands to reason that some of our stress rubs off on them!
Domestic animals don't have the same stresses as we do as a rule. They are fed and loved and looked after...I know every case is different and some animals are working animals but on the whole they don't have to worry about work, paying bills, making sure their kids have clean clothes everyday and can keep up with their friends with the latest gadgets, most of which cost several weeks wages, look after their parents, maintain a vehicle...bla bla bla. Not surprising we have stress really when you think of all the balls we have to keep in the air at once. But having an animal friend living with you can really help to reduce stress for all of us. Animals know when were not feeling well mentally or physically and they ick u on emotional issues to. How do they respond? They love us to make it all go away.
Animals need exercising - so we get to do exercise too and generally do it outside in nature, that's 2 stress relievers in one.
They need fuss and attention - so we take time to love them and in the process forget our worries and problems by focusing on something other than ourselves.
They like to snuggle and share their love and warmth - so we get to experience unconditional love in it's purest form and that's the best therapy or healing anyone can have.
It doesn't matter how big or small your animal is or what it is as long as you have a mutual bond and bring each other comfort. When my little one went to school I was desperate for another baby to ease that void because I had been a Mother for 13 years and didn't know what to do with myself without a small child at home to care for all day and I honestly think that's where some of my anxiety has stemmed from. I loved spending time taking the children to parks, and doing activities with them but of course had I had another child, I would have been in the same situation 4 years later when that child went to school. I can't work a job outside of the home until the boys are much older as we have no childcare, So instead we got a puppy and she is my best friend. She is always there for me and she is happy to come anywhere with me and I never feel alone. I talk to her and we have lovely walks and we still go out for coffee at Rufford park because in country parks it's perfectly acceptable to be out having a cream tea with your pooch. My doggy helps me to relax no matter how I am feeling and we all adore her. She is spoilt rotton with her princess crown bowls, pink bed, sparkly collars, the best food money can buy and private film showings if I have to leave her home alone.
In return she has brought me loyalty, friendship, patience, compassion, unconditional love and so much comfort and happiness. Now couldn't we all do with a slice of that?
Hi my Name is Philippa Woodsford and I am a Holistic therapist, Reiki Master Teacher and Hypnotherapist. I suffer with anxiety and depression due to a condition called fibromyalgia which I believe is linked with an auto immune disease I was diagnosed with at just 17. My blog is written for me as a sort of journal but also in the hope it may bring hope and healing to others suffering with similar issues on a daily basis. Enjoy
